About

The North Carolina League of Municipalities is the collective and unified voice of the state’s cities and towns. Led by members—the cities and towns themselves—the League is an extension of local governments. Together, we address common challenges, share resources, and provide the expertise needed for municipalities to serve their hometowns.

Southern City, the League’s flagship publication, reflects that mission and shines a light on the efforts, challenges and successes of our 540 cities and towns.

And those challenges are many. From utilities to public safety to downtown redevelopments to countless other projects, our local leaders work tirelessly to make our hometowns and our state a great place to live. Oftentimes, that work takes place behind the scenes. This magazine is dedicated to bringing it to the forefront.

Southern City also provides much-needed stories to keep our hometowns informed. Each issue, our in-house experts break down what’s happening around the state, provides legislative updates, and shares information about upcoming important events.

The League is for cities and towns, by cities and towns. For over 100 years now, our goal has been to have one voice working for a better, stronger North Carolina.
